Welcome to Bright Sun Candles. We create
candles of excellent quality and ingredients, that are
also naturally-beautiful and environmentally
friendly. Bright Sun Candles are
hand-poured in St. Paul, Minnesota from the wax of
American-grown soybeans. Our candles are scented
with only essential oils. We use no artificial
scents and no dyes or artificial colors. Like all
soy wax candles, our candles are clean &
long-burning and made from a natural wax that is a
renewable resource. We invite you to
experience the natural beauty of Bright Sun
Candles.

Green Home Living Tip:
Sustainable Christmas
Trees
Real
or Fake? For those who look
forward to a holiday/Christmas tree this time of
year, it's the inevitable time to ask yourself,
which is the greenest choice? Is an artificial,
reusable tree the best way to go for the
environment or is a natural tree going to leave
the smallest carbon footprint.
A few
points to
consider: Artifical
Tree Sure, one less tree is cut
down, it's easier for your family, cheaper over
the course of years and much cleaner around the
house. No trip to get it, no need to water it and
no annual expense, but is it greener? (pardon the
pun) Today's artificial trees are
typically manufactured with metal and polyvinyl
chloride (PVC), a non-biodegradable,
petroleum-derived plastic. In addition, many older
varieties may contain lead, used as a stabilizer
in the manufacturing process. Artificial trees are
non-recyclable and non-biodegradable, meaning they
will sit in a landfill for centuries after
disposal. Furthermore, approximately 85 percent of
artificial trees sold in the U.S. are imported
from China, according to the National Christmas
Tree Association (NCTA), and all of the
transportation adds to artificial trees overall
environmental
footprint. Real
Tree There are about 500,000 acres
in production for growing Christmas trees. Each
acre provides the daily oxygen requirements of 18
people. A single farmed tree absorbs more than 1
ton of CO2 throughout its lifetime. With more than
350 million real Christmas tress growing in U.S.
tree farms alone, you can imagine the yearly
amount of carbon sequestering associated with the
trees.
Approximately 33 million real
Christmas trees are sold in North America each
year. Luckily, about 93 percent of those trees are
recycled through more than 4,000 available
recycling programs. Christmas trees are recycled
into mulch and used in landscaping and gardening
or chipped and used for playground material,
hiking trails, paths and walkways.
In order to ensure a healthy supply
of Christmas trees each year, growers must use
sustainable farming techniques. For each tree
harvested, one to three seedlings are planted the
following spring, ensuring a healthy supply of
trees. What to
do? The choice is yours, but don't
forget about using a potted plant, decorating your
wall or just simplifying your holiday and not
including a tree. No matter what you choose, may
your holiday be merry and bright, and may all your
holidays be
green.
