Welcome to Bright Sun Candles.  We create candles of excellent quality and ingredients, that are also naturally-beautiful and environmentally friendly.

Bright Sun Candles are hand-poured in St. Paul, Minnesota from the wax of American-grown soybeans.  Our candles are scented with only essential oils.  We use no artificial scents and no dyes or artificial colors.  Like all soy wax candles, our candles are clean & long-burning and made from a natural wax that is a renewable resource.

We invite you to experience the natural beauty of Bright Sun Candles.

Sincerely,

Megan & Adam Tetz

So, What's So Great About Soy Wax Candles Anyway?

Bright Sun CandlesBright Sun Candles uses soy wax because it's the best material for making candles. Many of our customers know of these benefits, but we talk to a lot of folks who haven't heard about soy wax candles and their benefits.

Sustainable Resource
Soy wax comes from soy beans, a sustainable, biodegradable resource. Traditional paraffin candles are derived from petroleum, or oil. This is one simple choice you can make that supports sustainable products made close to home.

Slower burning times
Soy wax burns at a cooler temperature, which allows the wax to be consumed more slowly. This means that on average, soy candles burn twice as long as traditional paraffin candles. It's the ultimate win/win solution. You get to enjoy the candle longer and spend less money in the process!

Emits less soot
It's easy to see how some paraffin candles can leave soot trails on walls, sconces, etc. Think about it. You're burning a petroleum product that will release nasty chemicals (See our September 2009 e-newsletter for more info). Soy wax tends to produce far less
soot and doesn't have the same toxic chemicals found in paraffin candles because soy wax is plant-based. We know many of our customers are sensitive to their home's air quality, due to allergies or delicate pets, such as birds (birds are very sensitive to air quality).  All of these candle users prefer soy over paraffin.

Easy Clean up
In the event that some wax gets somewhere it shouldn't, clean up is easy. A bit of warm soapy water and it's gone. Many customers also use soy wax as part of a moisturizing massage. Soy wax oil is warm, but not hot, and can be massaged into the skin as a moisturizer.

For us, the choice in how we craft our candles is easy. We hope your choice on buying soy wax candles is easy too.

Green Home Living Tip of the Month

For many, a dozen (or more) roses are the essence of Valentines Day. But many, who are concerned about making more environmentally-friendly choices, wonder if roses are still the best option.

As with most questions regarding environmental impact, the answer depends.

Many flowers are grown in Educador and Columbia, where pesticides aren't regulated. Pesticides and other chemicals are often used liberally, causing environmental damange and causing horrible health effects on the workers who farm there. Buying organic flowers can make a positive impact on agricultural worker heath, the environment and any residual chemicals you may give to your sweetheart.

Here are a few ideas to green up flower choices on this special holiday.

  • Buy local flowers if you can. This reduces miles traveled and often means fewer chemicals have been added to your arrangement.
  • Give one rose rather than multiple. It makes a bold statement and may be better for the environment.
  • If flowers are what will express your love best, check out organic certified growers:

No matter how you choose to show your sweetheart that you care, don't forget to show a little love for the planet too and make sure your gift from the heart is a green one.
